HEINS MÜHLE MILL MUSEUM

THE MILL ON THE RUSHING BREXBACH STREAM CLATTERS MERRILY

Presumed to have been built between 1550 and 1600, the listed water mill in the romantic Sayn district of Bendorf still rattles away even today. The grain mill’s grinding mill extends over three floors between the water wheel and the millstone. The ‘Heins Mühle’ mill museum demonstrates and explains the different steps in the milling process as well as the importance of the miller’s craft in the region.

The ‘Heins Mühle’ is the only one of the 20 mills that once did their grinding work in Bendorf and the surrounding area to have been preserved in full working order.

Families and children can experience a real slice of history here and learn about everyday life in past centuries. Older people can reminisce and technology enthusiasts marvel at the sophisticated technology of the past.

Heins Mühle mill is open from Easter to All Saints’ Day on Sundays and public holidays between 2:00 and 5:00 pm Expert ‘mill men’ are on hand to guide you through more than 500 years of history in Sayn. Visitors can also explore the mill at their leisure and learn more about its history and technology from information boards.

Admission is free, but the ‘mill men’ are happy to receive donations.
