SAYN CASTLE’S NEW MUSEUM

TRADITION AND VALUES REINSPIRED!

The neo-Gothic fairytale castle of the Princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn is situated at the foot of Sayn’s ancestral castle.
In 1848, Prince Ludwig zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn and his wife Princess Leonilla converted the baroque manor house into a palace befitting their status and, after a long slumber, it was rebuilt two decades ago. It is now once again an open house, together with the New Museum and the SaynerZeit castle restaurant; a place of hospitality and the perfect romantic setting for the wedding of your dreams.

In the New Museum, Prince Alexander and Princess Gabriela provide a very private insight into their noble family’s life with exhibits from their personal possessions. The tour will introduce you to Prince Peter, the Russian Field Marshal, and his daughter-in-law, the beautiful Princess Leonilla, who led the family back to Sayn in 1850.

Outstanding photographs of the legendary “Mamarazza”, mother of the prince, illustrate the splendour of bygone days. But they also give an authentic account of the destruction and the valiant rebuilding in Sayn. Photos of her illustrious friends such as Sean Connery, Yves Saint Laurent and Romy Schneider, taken over several decades, document a glorious era.

Younger visitors will feel like princes and princesses when they are allowed to slip into magical costumes in the children’s kingdom with fairytale workshop. With a bit of luck, they might meet the cheerful poodle Disco in the castle, who is firmly convinced that he is a “Sayner Lion”. He sits enthroned on a pedestal in his velvet basket and loves to accompany the little visitors through the castle rooms telling his funny stories.

The silence and very special atmosphere of the colourful palace chapel, where the precious arm relic of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia is kept in the golden altar, beckons us to stop and contemplate life.

Next door, the large festive table of Prince Ludwig and Princess Leonilla makes you feel like taking a seat to enjoy a festive banquet.
The glory days of the Nürburgring's Nordschleife are brought to life in the ‘Prince Class’, and exhibits from the Prince’s ‘racing career’ are presented.

The royal family looks forward to welcoming you and hopes you have an unforgettable stay at the Sayn Castle New Museum.
